What is double-double in basketball?
A double-double is a single game in which a player reaches ten or more in two statistical categories — most often points and rebounds.
How double-double is recorded
Derived from the box score at the end of the game across points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. Three categories at ten or more is a triple-double.
Worked example from a box score
A line of 14 PTS, 11 REB, 3 AST is a double-double. 9 PTS and 12 REB is not — both categories have to reach ten.
What a good double-double looks like at youth level
At youth level a handful of double-doubles across a season marks a genuinely dominant player; more than a couple a month is exceptional.
Why it matters for a youth athlete
It is a shorthand for a complete game rather than a scoring night, and it is the kind of line that belongs at the front of a highlight reel.
