What is personal foul (pf) in basketball?
A personal foul is charged for illegal contact with an opponent, and a player is disqualified after reaching the game limit — five fouls in most youth and high-school rule sets.
How personal foul is recorded
Called by the officials and logged per player. Team fouls accumulate separately and put the opponent in the bonus for free throws.

A player with 4 PF in 14 minutes is fouling roughly every three and a half minutes — a pace that ends their night early in almost every game.
What a good personal foul looks like at youth level
Two or fewer fouls a game keeps an athlete on the floor. Three is manageable; a four-foul average is a playing-time problem.
Why it matters for a youth athlete
